The retailers’ work independently and often runs the business as an entrepreneur or as part of a larger organization. Their main area of expertise lies in selling at lower prices than other retailers.

When a designer creates more clothing than it sells through specialty retailers, department stores and when a specific store can’t shift all of the products in a particular line, the surplus inventory is sold at 20 – 60 % discounts to the off –price retailers.

This represents that they have got no limit to how low clearance prices could be. Most of the merchandise sold at off price retailers is seasonal which gets released at the time when full priced merchandise is sold at department stores.
